Dignity Kitchen – where local food meets social good

Project Dignity is on a mission to restore dignity to the differently-abled and disadvantaged through training, employment and vocation.

Dignity Kitchen operates a fully functional, regular hawker food court that is open to the public. Focusing on the training of people with physical, mental & social disabilities to learn a new skill, and to become food stall operators. They also offer their facilities for private events, as well as delivery services. You can take up cooking classes for local food and learn from the differently-abled chefs, or organise corporate team bonding cooking events. Bento boxes and muffins are also available for take-away and delivery. They have also expanded their programmes to include outreach events, learning events, and Dignity Mama outlets at major hospitals.

In Jan 2021, Dignity Kitchen shifted into their new premises at 69 Boon Keng Road. I took a visit recently and it was great setup. Brightly lit, spacious and a very welcoming environment. Differently-abled people run the stalls and various aspects of the operations. They have employed the use of technology through a central ordering counter so that the stall holders don’t have to handle any cash. They are now trailing the use of a robot that can roam and interact with customers and provide them with more information about Project Dignity wide range of opportunities to be a blessing to others.

The food is affordable and decent value for money. I had the nasi lemak with beef rendang and totally enjoyed it. The rice had a nice lemak flavour and the beef was soft, tender and tasty. Will definitely be going back regularly. Good food for a good cause.
