Ugly Cakes make the world a prettier place!
The Ugly Cake Shop a serious weekend foodie and home baker with a dream to feed the hungry kids in Timor-Leste. Armed with an oven and a mixing bowl (not little, I can assure you), she decided to used her God-given skills to help feed undernourished kids in Timor-Leste.
For some kids in Timor-Leste, even an egg is a delicacy. 20% of The Ugly Cake Shop’s proceeds will go towards buying meat, eggs and other much-needed protein sources for the kids in Shallom School, a school set up by Brazilian missionaries and supported by Agape Baptist Church. Every baked good purchased from The Ugly Cake Shop will help to supplement their meals!
Why The Name?
As far as possible, the Ugly Cake Shop does not use artificial colouring, artificial flavours, marzipan and fondant. The fewer chemicals you consume the better! 🙂
With over a decade of home baking experience, The Little Bowl is offering a small menu of her best cakes – all of which are named after some of her favourite people.
Big Daddy (Nutella Valrhona Cake)
Recently launched, Big Daddy is the ultimate chocolate cake and the only whole cake available at the Ugly Cake Shop. Made with Valrhona cocoa powder, this cake is super chocolatey, moist and decadent. This cake started off as The Nicholas, a deep dark chocolate cake, which the baker took two years to perfect.
$48 for a 7-inch cake (almost 1kg), $65 for a 9-inch cake
Other awesome chocolate goodies – The Nicholas (Deep Dark Chocolate Cake), Sally (Peanut Butter Cupcake Roses) and Maria (Chocolate Fudge Brownies)!
Maggie (Lime Drizzle Cake)
This lovely buttery pound cake is drizzled with sugary lime juice once it’s out of the oven! It’s so fragrant that it might give you the illusion that there’s coconut in it! This cake was modified from The Ugly Cake Shop’s best-selling Lemon Drizzle Cake. $20 for two loaves
My personal tasting experience
Maggie is literally mouth-watering. Omigosh! Just thinking about it is making my salivary glands work over time. It was tangy, fluffy and yummy. Flecks of lime zest peeking out of every slice and the lime drizzle was perfect! My only grouse was that I didn’t eat it fresh out of oven. Sampled it after it had sat in our fridge over night. If it already tasted that good out of the fridge, I can just imagine how awesome it would have tasted fresh!
Lemon Drizzle Cake was yummy too, but I still prefer Maggie hands-down. 🙂
The peanut butter choc fudge cupcakes were equally stunning. Peanut butter tends to give a bit of a ‘jer lak’ kind of feeling but the combination of nutty frosting, together with the moist fudginess of the chocolate cupcakes was sublime!!!! I polished off both over 2 days and I wouldn’t dare order those again, because I wouldn’t be able to stop eating them! 🙂 Also love the Lemon Zest cupcakes and the peanut butter dark chocolate cakes
Really delicious! Loved it! 🙂
