ONE+ONE is a social enterprise that designs and created handmade, handstitched and handcrafted products. 30% of the net profit is given to a needy cause, but none specifically mentioned.
During the development of ONE+ONE, the founder of the brand decided to add greater resonance to her creative idea by making sure that her designs would make a genuine difference. Her aspiration is to provide quality handmade craftwork that will enrich the customers in terms of product experience while also making a contribution in giving back to society.
Born and raised in Singapore, Veron Lien has been creating original design since childhood. Constantly inspired by the organic shapes, colors, textures and styles of the natural and man-made world, her design DNA is distinctively simple and stylist. The launch of ONE+ONE in 2014 is to fulfill a person dream, as well as a wish to inspire all creative individuals to make their dreams a reality.
Veron Lien: “I want ONE+ONE to be beneficial not only to me, but also to those who buy and use my designs – and to society as a whole. When someone purchases my craftwork, not only does my dream become a reality, it becomes part of their reality too – and a reminder that we each has the power and the choice to make a positive difference. 30% of each person’s net contribution to my craftwork will be donated to a charitable organization. No fixed charity or organization will be affiliated as I believe whoever is genuinely in need should have the chance to receive a helping hand from ONE+ONE,”
ONE+ONE designs are created personally by Veron Lien and hand-crafted with care and precision, using traditional techniques and carefully selected materials of the highest quality. As a result, each piece is unique and personal – created to suit individual needs.
“Using my creativity to design my own label had been an ambition for many years, but like many people with dreams I had other priorities too, so my focus needed to change before I could make it happen. I remember clearly when the dream started to become a reality. At a social gathering one Friday night, a friend and I got talking about ways in which design can be used to inspire and bring joy to others. We found we shared a vision, and wanted to share our own designs with those who appreciate creative simplicity with a hint of traditional workmanship. That is when 1+1 began, though it took a couple of months for our concept to materialize. One 1 was me; the other 1 was my friend. Together we were ONE+ONE. Some months later 1+1 become just ONE as my friend received an exciting opportunity to pursue a different dream. That is when I realised how important it was for me to make it happen anyway – ONE + ONE step at a time.”
Saddle-stitching has been used in preference to machine stitching to ensure ONE+ONE product remains durable. This is done by hand using two needles and waxed linen thread, chosen to compliment the colour and properties of the material. The technique locks each individual stitch in place, so that if one should break, the rest are still held in place – making repair possible.
