好貨設 hǎo huò shè (HHS) is a e-commerce business with an eco and social angle started by Singaporean Hui Shan, who left her career in tax consultancy to contribute back to the community.
Hui Shan shares that “HHS is a brand conceptualised upon the appreciation of human creativity, love for nature and pursuit of wellness. It is inspired by the spirit of looking good, doing good and feeling good. To encourage that, we start by putting together beautiful conscious products to grow HHS as a platform for shopping not only to look good, but also for a good cause.”
They review and curate a portfolio of quality goods crafted by exceptional designers and artisans. Most of them are independent and emerging artisans – who in turn support their local communities by offering fair job opportunities in producing the crafts.
In the 80s to 90s when the light industries moved out of Hong Kong, many local factories were forced to shut down and that has caused a large number of skilled seamstresses to lose their jobs in Hong Kong. HHS works with a social enterprise based in Hong Kong to engage retrenched seamstresses in the production process of the products so that these seamstresses can continue to earn a living through their skills.
One of HHS goals is to eventually launch products from the disadvantaged communities, and to also provide single moms with opportunities to work from home and earn an income. In addition, HHS also tries to ensure that the goods are made from ecologically friendly materials (e.g. natural, biodegradable, recycled).
